As an affiliate marketer, you need to have a lot of things in order for your business to be successful. There are many different ways to go about running your online business and this is just one list of the top six things that I think all affiliate marketers should try and achieve.

Although there may be more than 6 important factors that can help when trying to run a successful affiliate marketing campaign, these are the ones that I feel will give you the best chance at success!

As someone who has spent over ten years working as an accountant in the corporate world, you would think I would know everything about numbers and accounting practices by now.

Everyone has to start somewhere and that’s why I’m here. You might be a brand new blogger or you’ve been at it for years, but either way this post is for you. I want to share some of the things that helped me survive my early blogging days so hopefully they can help you out as well! So let’s get started…

I bet if we look back on our first blog posts, most of us cringe. They’re probably poorly written with awful grammar and lack creativity since we were trying too hard to sound perfect rather than just being ourselves.

I’ve been an affiliate marketer for over four years now. I started out with no experience, not even knowing what it meant exactly to be one. It wasn’t until about two years in that I realized my passion and the potential of this business model.

Online affiliate marketing is a great way to make money online, but it’s not easy. You have to be willing to put in the time and effort needed for success. This article lists 6 things you need in order to survive as an affiliate marketer. These are the tools that are essential for anyone who wants to earn income from their website or blog.

6 Things All Affiliate Marketers Need To Survive-

1. Traffic

The first thing I would recommend any affiliate marketer to get is traffic. Without visitors, there is no point in even trying to make money from your website. Remember that making a profit means you need to have a return on investment (ROI). An ROI can be achieved if you have traffic going to your offers and converting.

The larger your traffic, the higher your chances of making a profit. Currently, I am using SEMrush (great tool) to find keywords with high search volume to promote various affiliate products. Once I get my page ranking well in Google for these targeted keywords, I will share them here.

2. Subdomains

The second thing that I would recommend is creating subdomains. A subdomain is like an additional domain that you can make to separate content or whatever you are trying to do on your website (I will be using two subdomains in the future, one for affiliate marketing and one for my online graphic design service).

Why use a subdomain? Subdomains allow you to separate traffic and SEO ranking. There is a lot of controversy on whether or not subdomains help your SEO. Personally, I don’t care if they do or not. All I know is that it helps me out in the long run for affiliate marketing purposes because I need all the traffic I can get!

3. Design your Subdomains

If you are using subdomains for affiliate marketing, make sure to design them well. Create a title that is appealing and try to convince the user to click on your link. The few I have created already include:

4. Email List

The next thing you need to be successful in affiliate marketing is an email list. The first reason you need a contact list is because it allows you to contact them with future updates and offers.

This will help generate more income for both parties involved if the offer is relevant to them as well as current. A quick way of building up an email list is to get people’s emails when they purchase one of your affiliate offers. At the end of their purchasing process, you can ask if they would like to be updated on any other products.

5. Content Marketing

The next thing that I highly recommend everyone do is create and share original content (this may take a little bit longer to do). When I started affiliate marketing, I bought a couple of books and read them as much as possible as well as researched as much as possible.

One book that really helped me out was Anthony Morrison’s . Now, this is an older version but you can still learn a lot from it. There are many other great resources on the Internet nowadays. Use them!

6. Blogging (and Forums)

Another thing that I recommend, especially if you are new to affiliate marketing, is starting a blog. This will help both your SEO and give you something to work on in the process.

You can either use a free blogging host like Blogspot or WordPress or you can go with paid ones like Wix, Weebly and the like. I will be using Weebly to host my blog simply because it is easy to use and doesn’t take up too much money every month (You can always upgrade your plan as well).

What is Affiliate Marketing & Who are Affiliate Marketers?

Affiliate Marketing is a relatively new way of doing business and a number of the best web marketers have embraced it as a way to increase their income.

Affiliate marketers are a type of internet marketing that place advertisements on other websites. These advertisements generate traffic for the site and hopefully, sales or leads for the business. They get paid a commission when purchases are made from their link. For this reason, affiliate marketing is also known as “referral marketing”.

Affiliate marketers work for a wide range of companies that want to increase sales. These include entertainment sites, travel websites, and B2B businesses. Some affiliate marketers may also be employed as part of an “affiliate program”. They may operate as individuals or as part of a company. The company itself is responsible for recruitment and supervision of affiliate marketers.

In some cases, affiliate marketers have to sign a contract with their employer. The contract will set out the terms of their employment and how they are remunerated for any sales or leads generated by them. In other cases there may not be a written agreement so it’s more informal.

Affiliate marketers commonly form alliances with other websites and bloggers in order to increase traffic volume to their site. This is accomplished by the affiliate marketer using a search engine or directory to identify relevant opportunity sites that might want an affiliation with his/her web-site.

The affiliate marketer then contacts the operator of those sites and negotiates a mutually beneficial agreement.  Typically that means that the affiliate will receive a percentage of any sales generated through their site and in some instances be granted access to special content, tools and other resources on the website.

Affiliate marketing is sometimes referred to as network marketing or referral marketing, since affiliates tend to work through their networks to generate sales opportunities.

One unique feature of affiliate marketing is that it rewards individuals for building and maintaining relationships with people who can be helpful in business.

Affiliate marketers earn money only after the people they have referred complete a sale or fill out an online form. This means that you should generate a large number of sales opportunities via your website in order to earn a living.

As an affiliate marketer, you’ll have to constantly search for new ways to increase the number of referrals that you have coming into your site.  One way to do this is by forming alliances with other websites and bloggers who will link back to your own website and drive traffic to it.

You can also provide valuable content and resources on your site in order to generate more interest in the affiliate products you recommend.

What Skills do Affiliate Marketers Need To Survive Online-

Affiliate marketers need to know the latest trends in affiliate marketing. This is because new trends keep emerging while some old ones disappear.

Every month, a number of new affiliate programs are launched by website owners while some others stop their business. The marketer has to be updated on all this so that he does not lose opportunities and also cannot make losses.

Up-to-date information on the latest affiliate marketing trends can be found all over the web. Internet marketing forums and websites have endless opportunities for an affiliate marketer to learn from other marketers.

A number of articles are posted by different authors each day on niche forums, blog posts, and website articles about affiliate marketing. One can also get updated info from various events and conferences on affiliate marketing.

These are some of the places which help an affiliate marketer to stay updated with all the latest trends in his business.

The Internet is full of information on almost any topic one can think of. Affiliate marketers use this resource for their benefit by visiting blogs, reading news stories, etc.

By doing this they are able to increase their knowledge of the industry, making them more desirable to potential affiliate program managers.
