Blogging Tip: Content Creation Tips

As a blogger, you think about your blog as your baby. You take great pride in the content you publish, and feel genuine excitement when others read it.

Sadly, even though so much hard work goes into blogging, many blogs have few readers who share the same enthusiasm for your content as you do.

If this is happening to you, there’s a good chance your content isn’t attractive enough to get people reading. Here are a few pieces of advice which, if taken on board, can help you change that:

Before you can think about how to make your posts more attractive, look at the types of posts that you’ve been putting up. The truth is, many blog posts aren’t worth reading at all, and the only reason why people read them is because they’re attached to a blog which has other interesting content.

When was the last time you came across an article whose title grabbed your attention immediately? Sadly, despite the fact that we live in a digital age where we’re constantly bombarded with information, very few people can claim to consistently read titles which hook them.

If you want more people reading your blog posts, the only way to achieve this is by writing content whose title catches their attention immediately and makes them eager for more.

If you aren’t doing so already, brainstorm ideas beforehand for titles that fit this bill. While you might not be able to come up with a title in a second, spend some time considering this when you write your post.

You’ll find that when you put more effort into coming up with a catchy title, the process of writing the content itself also becomes easier.

What is Your Blog Really About?

A huge number of bloggers start a blog with no clear idea about what it’s going to be about, and as a result end up not really covering any topic in-depth.

In the long run, this is fatal for blogs as it means that readers can never truly trust that they’ll learn something interesting from them. How will readers know that your blog is interesting if they don’t know what it’s about?

Before you start uploading blog posts, take some time to define your blog thoroughly. This doesn’t mean you have to write out a long “About” section, but instead focus on coming up with one main topic which will make up the bulk of your content.

Doing so gives readers something clear to expect, and makes it easier for them to tag the blog when they come across it in search engines.

If you want to be read widely around the web, take some time to understand what aspects of content appeal to a large number of people. For example, according to studies, there are a number of aspects that increase the probability that people will share content.

For example, posts with photos or videos are more likely to be shared than those without them, and text posts with longer sentences have a better chance of being shared as well.

After you’ve finished writing your blog post, consider if there is anything you could add which would make the post more interesting to read. This might be a video you can show, or an example chart to help explain something visually. If there isn’t anything, then perhaps the post itself just wasn’t interesting enough.

If your approach doesn’t seem to work after you’ve given it some time, try switching up what you’re doing slightly. Try adding a photo, for example. The truth is that there’s no universal formula to making your content more interesting; you just have to try things out and see what works the best for you.

Authentic Content-

As SEO becomes increasingly more difficult, marketers are turning to do-it-yourself content. If you ask any experienced digital marketer what the single most important part of their job is, I’m pretty sure they will tell you “content”. Content is king; it’s the lifeblood of your internet marketing campaign.

If you want to create a successful blog, you have to create good content. And if you want to keep your readers engaged and coming back for more, you need to give them fresh, authentic content. Here are some tips on how to do it the right way:

Tip #1. Be yourself

The first rule is simple enough—be yourself! Your authenticity is what will set you apart from other blogs, and people can smell a fake blog post from a mile away. So create content that’s uniquely you—make it personal, relatable, and entertaining.

Tip #2. Create fantastic headlines

A snappy title is an essential ingredient of good content. The reason why the Huffington Post has been so successful is that they know how to write pithy titles that entice people to click through. Make your headlines count by writing compelling, click-worthy titles that promise to help solve the reader’s problem or enquiry.

Tip #3. Be thorough but don’t ramble

As marketers, we are always looking for ways to push out more content—but we shouldn’t sacrifice quality for quantity. If you’re on a roll and coming up with great content, go ahead and publish! A good rule of thumb: if you can’t get your post down to under 1000 words, it might be too long.

Tip #4. Share other people’s work

If I ever catch you plagiarizing, you’re fired! I’m only kidding…sort of. One great way to be authentic is by sharing other relevant blogger’s content into your blog post. This not only shows that you care about the industry, but it also gives people a chance to learn more about their interests.

Authoritative Content-

If you’re looking to build a website that offers the best content, then authority is your bread and butter. However, it can be hard to effectively create this type of content if you don’t know what makes it different from other kinds of content. The key to creating authoritative content lies in two major things:

Your content must have a voice. In other words, it needs an opinion.

This is especially important for business sites where they’re typically seen as authority figures in their industry or sector. When they don’t offer any kind of original content that offers real insight into the subject matter at hand, this makes them look bland and unoriginal.

A voice offers the kind of personality that makes readers want to keep coming back for more. Writer’s block is a common problem seen by lurkers on the internet. They see content being published all over the place, but have no place to contribute their own ideas or opinions.

You can break this writer’s block cycle by creating an original voice that readers can easily find on your site.

It’s also important to keep in mind that the voice you choose should be authentic to who you are as a person or business entity. If people feel like they’re reading something manufactured, then it won’t be worth their time.

The content should foster a sense of conversation.

This is where you’re going to draw the line and set yourself apart from other sites. Instead of publishing content that mindlessly preaches to readers like a Sunday preacher, authoritative content fosters dialogue with readers.

Friendly Content-

There’s a ton of great content out there. You can find it by truckload if you know where to look. Unfortunately, a lot of that content comes from “experts” who aren’t friendly at all. They have information to sell, and they don’t hesitate to shove that info into your face.

On the other hand, we have people like Richard Laermer. Richard is what we call a “friendly expert,” and his blog posts are all about information that people can use to improve their businesses.

It’s written in such a way that you feel like Richard is sitting right there beside you—literally because he often comments on his own posts.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Richard for several years—not personally, but I call him my friend just the same. How do I know that? Because he talks to me like an old buddy, not some faceless lead with an order form at the bottom. He treats me like a friend, and that’s why I’m so happy to do business with him.

Friendly content is the best way to connect with your audience. If you can find a way to be friendly in your writing, they’ll feel like friends, too—and when you ask them for something (like an order), they’ll give it to you.
